Here is the story on Sunitha that I wrote up. Contact me with any questions
Sunitha Christie is a living saint.
She lives alone with her elderly mother in Southern India, in the city of Siva Kasi. In a society where animals, even dogs and cats, are not worth a second glance and starvation and cruelty are rampant, she stands out against it.
Sunitha is 28 years old and has dedicated her young life to saving abused, starving, and deformed dogs. She currently shelters 108 dogs, spending all her time and little money caring for them.
She has always been in need of support to continue her mission to save Southern India's dogs, but to date has received ridicule and hostility from her community. All her family except her mother have disowned her. The only support she has received is a single anonymous contributor who delivers 20 kilos of rice a month to her doorstep and leaves, and a few local vets who occasionally agree to help her spay and neuter her dogs.
Sunitha's situation is desperate now. Her landlord is evicting her from her home, onto the street, along with her mother, and every one of her rescued dogs. If this happens all the dogs will return to the streets and to miserable fates of starvation, cruelty, and death. Sunitha and her mother's fates will be unknown. She has little time left. She is one of the few rare individuals dedicated to relieving the dire situation that dogs face in India, and if she cannot find a new home she will not be able to continue her work.
The property she is looking at is small and humble, not much more than 1/10 of an acre. I am looking to raise as much as possible for her, as it will help her buy food, medical supplies, and other necessities for the dogs. With this money she can establish a secure home and base from which to continue her work, and from there I want to try to help her reach out to other organizations to network and build support.
What will happen with the money:
1. Purchase a home
2. Purchase much needed medical supplies/food
3. Build a proper shelter within the property for the dogs
4. Start building an organization -the first of its kind in Southern India!- to rescue animals in need of help.
Sunitha believes her life and the lives of her dogs are over- that she will literally die in the street with them. Help me prove to her that there is hope!
