After last year’s success, the anticipated 2012 One Step Beyond (OSB) Reunion event is finally set. This is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Club Illusions (Formerly The Edge/Vortex/Keystone Palo Alto - 260 South California Avenue, Palo Alto, California 94306) from 8 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. This updated venue is excited to re-host another mind-blowing and memorable night packed with amazing people and great sounding Alternative Dance Music from the 80s and today. Headlining the live aspect of this event will be The Frail, a fantastic up-and-coming San Francisco electro-pop group who are releasing a new record this summer. Coupled with performances from several DJs, including Live 105’s & Popscene's Aaron Axelsen, this event was designed to merge the past and present with One Step Beyond's inimitable essence that influenced so many.
“Before Axelsen was shaping musical tastes around the Bay Area as music director at Live 105, producer of Popscene, and host of the weekly new-music showcase Soundcheck, he was having his own tastes shaped at One Step Beyond. ’I used to go to One Step Beyond and see crazy bands there when I was 14,’ says Axelsen. ‘It was a big part of who I am’.”
This is an immeasurable story due to the inspiring and memorable contributions One Step Beyond subjugated in the cultural landscape. One Step Beyond was the most iconic Bay Area Modern Rock/Alternative dance club/live venue located in Santa Clara/Silicon Valley from 1985 – 1991. One Step Beyond was also known throughout the land as “One Step.” OSB was an all-ages venue that catered to many alternative types: punks, goth kids, ’80s New Wavers, mods, metal heads or anyone beyond the pale of mainstream. Resident DJs and celebrity radio DJs created an addictive; etched in your mind dance environment. OSB was also known for their amazing history of ear bending Live Shows featuring bands such as The Ramones, The Psychedelic Furs, A flock of Seagulls, Motorhead, Fishbone, The Replacements, Jane’s Addiction, Faith No More, Ministry, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Level 42, Smithereens, Iggy Pop, Rollins Band, Midge Ure (from Ultravox), Living Colour, Midnight Oil, , Aztec Camera, The Sugar Cubes (Bjork), Peter Murphy, and countless others that shared the stage at OSB.
Mr. Stan Kent was the inspiration, majority owner/founder, general manager, DJ, and booking agent. His entrepreneurial mind helped create the most significant alternative social hang out of the time. Everyone that stepped into the club knew that Kent injected his love for music, his attitude in life, his unique style, and overall visions into OSB’s haunting fabric and beloved history.
